POS inventory control system vs. a cash register
We are often told by customers looking for a cash register that they want inventory control. After hearing this we must really dive into what does inventory control mean to that person? To some it is true inventory control where the POS is tracking how many of one item you have sold, you have entered a beginning stock, you have entered on-going purchases of stock and taken a physical inventory and the system can tell you at any given time how many of that item you have on the shelf and how many you need to order and from whom. I know that was a long winded answer, however to some when they claim they want inventory control they really mean they wish to have a sales report of how many of one item they have sold over a period of time. There is a huge difference in the two ideas of inventory control.
If you are looking for true inventory control as described in my first example than a cash register is probably not for you. You would be better served with a software based POS system with inventory control. Now having said that does that mean a cash register can't do inventory control? No in fact many cash registers include a stock keeping report, however when we get down to the real world of operating a POS inventory control system you will find cash registers are to labor intensive and your cost of doing the work may outweigh the benefit. I have seen it over and over in my years in the cash register and POS industry. We have also had to fix many situations where a sales person (not ours) told a client of yah, this cash register can do full inventory control and they sell the client a bill of goods. Yes in theory it may work but in the real world unless you only have a handful of items it is not going to work.
If you need true inventory control then do yourself a favor and look at a software based POS inventory control system such as the Keystroke POS system. A computer based POS system integrates all the movement of inventory in your store. A true POS system allows you to create automatic inventory purchase orders, allows you to receive and edit inventory by accepting purchase orders into the system and of course the items you sell are automatically deducted from you inventory.
When set up correctly you will be able to go into you inventory control POS system and generate a report of what you need to buy from your vendors, or create a shrink report in a matter of seconds or maybe print shelf tags.
I could go on all day regarding the differences and benefits of both types of systems. If you would like to discuss which system would work better for you please give us a call at 1-800-863-2274 we are located in Seattle however we sell and install Keystroke POS and cash registers all over North America

Age Verification makes the SAM4s SPS-500 series the perfect liquor store cash register
The SAM4s SPS-500 series includes a feature for age verification by swiping the drivers license on the cash register magnetic card reader. Many state drivers licenses encode driver data on a mag stripe. When age entry is required, the drivers license can be swiped and the age verified. This feature is enabled by identifying track data on the Age Verification program screen. (California support added at V1.00m). All of the SAM4s SPS-500 series cash register include this feature. Of course you will need to add the integrated magnetic card reader to the register and your state must have ID's capable.
For a liquor store you would want a SAM4s SPS-520R which has a raised keyboard and a receipt and journal printer. If you don't require a receipt then you could use the SPS-530R cash register which is about a $100.00 less.
For a bar/lounge/club you would probably want the SAM4s SPS-520F which has a flat keyboard designed for food and beverage operations. If you don't need a receipt then you could use the SPS-530F which is the same machine with receipt only.
All of these cash registers work with the Datacap Twin Tran for credit card interface and gift card interface. All can use bar code scanners, kitchen printers, computer interfaces etc.

Cash Registers with touch screens
There are two cash registers with touch screens on the market. First there is the Sharp UP-820F cash register which is a fine machine. The second one and the most popular is the SAM4s SPS-500 series of cash registers with touch screens.
Cash registers with touch screens make the best of both worlds. The traditional cash register can be much faster then a touch screen however the touch screen can be more intuitive and often easier to program and use. Combining the two makes a lot of sense and has been a big hit.

SAM4s makes the best cash registers on the North American Market
SAM4s makes the best cash registers on the US and Canadian market today. Many people think they are Samsung and while there is a connection they are not one in the same. SAM4s is a brand name of cash registers made by SHIN-HEUNG PRECISION CO., LTD. (SHC)who was the OEM manufacturer of Samsung cash registers. In 2001 Samsung left the cash register business and SHC was able to buy the cash register business from Samsung. SHC then began to offer the cash registers under there own brand name of SAM4s and the rest is history.
SAM4s has never looked back since their beginning in the North American Market. They changed the game with the SAM4s ER-650 but did not stop, next they brought us the SPS-2000 followed by the SPS-500 series and now they are bring the Tabby to market!
